A veteran of New York City’s bar and restaurant scene, Garret has lived, breathed, and sweated spirits for nearly two decades. A former bartender with experience ranging from Michelin-starred establishments to local pubs, he retains very strong opinions on cocktail garnishes, and is Food & Wine's associate editorial director of drinks.

Experience

Garret was previously the senior digital editor at Wine Enthusiast, where from 2015 to 2022 he helped shape the magazine's coverage and wrote regular columns on spirits, cocktails, bartending, and bar culture. He is now Food & Wine's editorial director, previously the associate editorial director of drinks, and is also the editorial director of Liquor.com.

Over many years in the hospitality industry, Garret has held a variety of positions in bars and restaurants, from barback to line cook, food runner, bartender, bar manager, and any other position where someone called out sick five minutes before their shift. He still considers himself to be one of New York's foremost experts in carrying buckets of ice and washing rubber mats.
