What to Buy Hosting & Dining This Outdoor Pasta Bowl Set Is So Good, It’s Practically Replacing My Ceramic Pieces I use them for everything. Food & Wine's Editorial Guidelines Published on June 30, 2024 Photo: Year & Day It’s no secret that I love a good pasta bowl. In fact, if you took all of my dinnerware out of my cabinet and left me with a few sets of my favorite ones, I’d likely be just fine (and maybe a little happier with less clutter). My collection of pasta bowls seems to be ever-growing, and last year, I finally added an outdoor set to my assortment. Never did I think that these lightweight, sustainable, and patio-friendly Year & Day bowls would virtually replace my ceramic versions, but here we are. I love everything about them, and truthfully couldn’t go without a set once the weather gets warm. They’re an essential for outdoor entertaining, but they also come in handy for movie nights on the couch — fully indoors. In my opinion, every home should have a set of these incredible bowls. 4-Piece Outdoor Big Bowl Set Year & Day $64 at Yearandday.com I received samples of Year & Day’s entire outdoor set a year ago, when the brand launched them. I love and use the whole set for entertaining, but on my day-to-day, the pasta bowls are always what I reach for, even when I have no plans to go outside. I was originally intrigued by the brand’s sustainably-minded designs. Each bowl is made with plant-based materials and is fully plastic-free. In fact, according to the brand, only a fifth of the typical carbon emissions are released in the production of these bowls (compared to plastic), which is an important highlight for me. Kristin Montemarano What made me fall in love with the bowls is their quality. The surface is smooth and soft, yet durable enough that I don’t have to worry about the wear and tear of outdoor use. Each bowl is lightweight, as outdoor tableware should be, which makes it easy for me to hold and move them from inside to outside with ease. They have the perfect size to hold a wide range of dishes. I’ve used them for pasta, salads, grain bowls, stir-fry, casseroles, desserts, and so many more dishes. Their edges taper off perfectly, so everything stays inside the 8.25-inch wide bowl, yet the shallow 2-inch walls make it easy to get to everything in the bowl. The biggest perk of all is that they’re microwave- and dishwasher-safe, which means I can reheat foods mindlessly and don’t have to deal with cleaning up after hosting guests. I also haven’t noticed any staining, unwanted smells, nor any other damage in my year of using them. These bowls are truly no-fuss, which is all I really have time or patience for these days. I will never go a summer without them, and you shouldn’t either. Shop the set in three colors now at Year & Day’s website before the season’s over.
