Oscar Mayer’s “The Bologna Song” first graced television screens in 1974, capturing hearts, ears, and even grocery lists across America. Five decades later, the ad is back — complete with its signature ’70s charm and sing-along magic — reminding us all why it became the longest-running jingle in advertising history. On Thanksgiving, while many of us were juggling turkey and touchdowns, millions tuned in to witness the return of the iconic ad during the Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions game. Back in 1974, “The Bologna Song” wasn’t just a catchy tune — it was a cultural phenomenon. Teaching Americans how to spell “bologna” in a way that made us hum while grocery shopping, the song elevated lunch meat to celebrity status. The brand is also bringing back that iconic tune for a new generation to enjoy — and they’re giving fans a chance to cash in on the fun. From now through December 15, fans who correctly sing “The Bologna Song” lyrics can score free groceries, including, of course, Oscar Mayer Bologna. If you’re lucky enough to spot Oscar Mayer’s Wienermobile in your city, you can serenade its crew of Hotdoggers with the jingle in person. Nail the lyrics, and you’ll walk away with a pack of free Oscar Mayer Bologna — and likely a great story to tell at your next dinner party. “Fifty years ago, we introduced the world to ‘The Bologna song’ as a way to spotlight our delicious deli meats and cement the brand’s legacy and mantra of uniting millions around a love of meat,” said Shelby Max, brand manager for Oscar Mayer. “By re-airing the original ad and becoming the first brand to accept singing as a form of payment, we want to remind fans everywhere that bologna has a first name — it’s O-S-C-A-R.” Turns out, even 50 years later, we all still know the words.
