Food & Wine's Editorial Guidelines Published on November 5, 2024 Close Photo: jenifoto / Getty Images It’s time to start strategizing for your Thanksgiving game plan. And whether you’re hosting an entire meal or just bringing one dish to a Friendsgiving, the process of making delicious holiday foods will always begin in the same place: the grocery store. Fortunately, amid a time of inflated food prices, several of our favorite supermarkets have announced major deals on Thanksgiving staples that will make for a delicious spread without breaking the bank. These savings cover a wide range of grocery options, so you can customize a shopping list to your needs. Some discounts focus on individual ingredients, like creamy condensed soups for casseroles or broth for a delicious gravy. But if you’re not in the mood for cooking, many ready-to-eat sides and desserts are marked down to prices below $5 and $10, meaning you can simply snag a pumpkin pie to bring to your friend’s house. Of course there are turkeys — even the beloved Butterball brand — at affordable prices too, which we’re extra thankful for considering how pricey proteins have become. Many of these grocery store deals will make it easier for you to plan an entire Thanksgiving dinner by bundling discounted items together. Just purchase the entire package, and your menu is practically set for you, with a cost per person that’s so low you can splurge on a nice bottle of wine. The best part of all the Thanksgiving savings available this year is that so many of them come from major retailers. These discounts are accessible, and it’s likely that a supermarket near you is participating. Here are some of the deals you need to know about from grocery stores across the country — including Walmart, Aldi, Target, Lidl, Sam’s Club, and Amazon Fresh. 01 of 06 Walmart’s Thanksgiving Dinner at $7 Per Person Courtesy of Walmart Savings on holiday groceries at Walmart can be found either online or in stores, and they’ll last through December 25. A bundled selection of 28 items will help you serve a meal for 10 people at roughly $7 per person. But if you’re not interested in buying the entire set, the store has discounted tons of separate ingredients too, like boxed stuffing mix, mini marshmallows, and canned green beans. Walmart’s offerings are largely focused on the components you need to cook, but the brand’s bakery does have affordably priced pies, cookies, and other treats if you’re searching for something that’s ready to eat. So if you’re looking to cut out the cost of inflation, this is the place to do it. In addition to a $47 bundle of groceries that will feed 10 people for an astonishingly low cost of $4.70 per person, Aldi also has bundles that are ideal for when you’re heading to a potluck or holiday party. Priced at just $10, these packs include appetizer essentials like wine, crackers, dip, cheese, and grapes, so you’ll never arrive empty-handed. Lidl is serving up the most affordable Thanksgiving meal per person on this list, with a bundle that feeds 10 people for $45, or $4.50 each. The CEO of Lidl U.S., Joe Rampoldt, says this is because of the company’s global supply chain, which it can leverage to find quality products at low costs. Inside the meal deal, customers will find groceries like boxed mac and cheese, rolls, a turkey, and ingredients needed to make sides, such as sweet potato casserole or mashed potatoes. One key difference between this package and the one at Aldi is that the latter includes cranberry sauce, which explains why it costs $2 more. If you’re hoping to spend minimal time in the kitchen — without sacrificing flavor — Sam’s Club might be your best bet. The Walmart-owned superstore is offering a packaged Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people at $100. But the slightly higher price (which is still only $10 per person), comes with some big conveniences. The supermarket can have all of the groceries delivered to your home in under three hours, and everything is already cooked. There are mashed sweet potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts, a tray of macaroni and cheese that just needs to be popped in the oven to melt, and even a smoked turkey. The brand’s bundle of Thanksgiving groceries will serve six people for under $30, but its sales are especially helpful for those who would prefer not to buy every ingredient for turkey day at the same time. Purchase individual items at excellent prices — Butterball turkeys are currently 50% off — or try out a package of ingredients for one specific dish, like everything you need to make stuffing or an apple pie. Amazon Prime Members will get additional discounts, so it’s a great time to finally become a member. Read more 06 of 06 Target’s Thanksgiving Dinner at $5 Per Person Courtesy of Target Brands, Inc. For anyone hosting a smaller holiday dinner, Target might be the way to go. (And while you may be more familiar with the store for its clothes, homewares, and appliances, I recommend trying it out for inexpensive groceries!) The brand’s Thanksgiving menu costs $5 less than it did in 2023, and it feeds four people for a total of $20. But you can snag additional sides and appetizers for under $5 each, like Good & Gather’s cheddar macaroni and cheese or a log of cranberry goat cheese, which would be delicious on some crackers. Entire pies are priced at less than $5, which proves that we shouldn’t underestimate Target. Read more Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why! Other Submit
