Its earliest mention was in the Oxford English Dictionary in 1710. Other names, the publication added, are the Sanguine or Blood Moon, which are "associated with the blood from hunting or the color of the changing autumn leaves." It also marks the largest supermoon of the year, as it will be the time when the moon is closest to the Earth. So naturally, Krispy Kreme is dropping a limited-time doughnut to honor it. On Thursday, October 17, Krispy Kreme fans can enter any of its shops to get the Supermoon Super Doughnut. And that's the only time they'll be able to get it as this is a one-day-only special. "This October’s Supermoon is the biggest all year. So, get outside Thursday night and make the view even sweeter by enjoying and sharing our Supermoon Super Doughnuts,” Dave Skena, Krispy Kreme's global chief brand officer, shared in a statement provided to Food & Wine. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Are Coming to a McDonald’s Near You The doughnut, the brand added, is inspired by the "bigger, brighter supermoon" and is made with an unglazed doughnut base filled with cookies & kreme filling, which is then dipped in yellow icing and swirls of chocolate cookie pieces. All you need to do is try to spot the man on the moon before you take a bite. The limited-edition doughnut will be available for purchase both individually and as a Supermoon Super Doughnuts specialty dozen. Sweet tooth fans can order them for pickup or delivery via Krispy Kreme’s app and website, but you'll want to act fast as these are likely to sell out before the waning gibbous phase actually ends. This is, of course, not Krispy Kreme's first foray into astronomy-related doughnuts. It also released a Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut in April. It's also no stranger to limited-time drops, releasing a Ghostbuster-themed lineup just last week for Halloween, and announced it's giving away free doughnuts to honor its expanding partnership with McDonald's. So, really, it's never been a better time to be a Krispy Kreme fan. Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why! Other Submit
